It's a brisk, clear morning, and a few brave souls decided to take an early trek to a small lake. The lake is perfectly named "God da Staz." The sun has barely begun to rise above the horizon over the Swiss Alps as we set out to leave on our journey.
Our journey to "Lake Staz" was tranquil, peaceful, and a wonderful opportunity to explore a small section of the Swiss Alps on foot. Passing through a stunning forest of golden larch trees took us approximately twenty minutes. Upon arriving at the lake's edge, the sun illuminated the crystal-clear water, creating a breathtaking reflection from the surrounding woodland. As the sun ascended, its rays breathed life into the larch trees, enveloping them in a vibrant array of colors. We were filled with wonder and admiration at the magnificent spectacle unfolding before us. It was a profound moment, feeling privileged to witness the splendor of God's creation coming to life right in front of us.
After taking way too many photos, we strolled around the lake, hoping that our time there would never end. Regrettably, it was time to depart from this adventure. It was time for breakfast and rendezvous with the rest of our group to explore more of the majestic Swiss Alps.
As we gathered together outside our hotel. I befriended a young man named Victor. Victor had just recently started working there and we quickly learned he was eager to use the hotel to take us on our next adventure which was a funicular ride up to the summit Piz Nair. It took us three different Funicular (cable car) rides to reach the summit of Piz Nair which rose over 10,000 feet above sea level.
Piz Nair, situated in the Albula Alps, offers a breathtaking view of nine neighboring mountain peaks, including the majestic "The Matterhorn" which stands at over 14,000 feet. Upon reaching the summit, we were welcomed by a picturesque snow-covered landscape. Our group joyfully played in the snow like children. Our timing was impeccable, allowing us to admire the surrounding mountains, valleys, and lakes clearly. After about thirty minutes, a snow squall arrived, dusting us with a beautiful layer of snow that enhanced the enjoyment of our Swiss hot chocolate.
After the snow cleared and our view returned, it was time to head down the mountain. Some bravely contemplated taking the individual ski lift chairs but wisely decided to stay inside the comfort of the funicular. We spent the rest of the afternoon walking around the town of St. Moritz before meeting back up with Victor for our ride back to the hotel and a delicious dinner at Pier 30 located on the eastern side of Lake Moritz. As the sun started to set on a memorable day in the Swiss Alps, no one seemed to mind the fairly short evening stroll back to our lodging.
