We started our morning with a hearty breakfast and a not-so-great cup of coffee. Good coffee has been elusive on this trip. After breakfast, the group decided to climb up to the castle. We were told one way was easier than the other, and we decided to do the harder one first. It was also very convenient since the path began right outside our hotel door. The path was fairly flat, but I'm pretty sure it was a straight vertical climb. We were told it would take 30 minutes but soon realized it was 30 minutes Italian time.
On our way, we passed through a little hamlet, Vezio of Perledo. We found our way into the castle and to our surprise, it wasn't just any 11th-century castle, but this one was haunted with ghosts hanging around. Once inside the castle, we saw weapons and armor that were found in the area. My last blog inadvertently showed some pictures of the castle, but here are a few more...
After enjoying our visit to the castle, we decided to take the more scenic route, and it was amazing! The only problem was that it was down the side of a cliff... (I think someone in our group had to go change her pants).
After a short break, it was time for a new adventure. We jumped on a train and headed to the town of Bellano and walked through the "Gorge of Orrido."
After leaving the gorge, we walked right into the prettiest cemetery I've ever seen. Out of respect, I'll only post one picture of the cemetery and one of the view leaving the cemetery.
After a full day of exploring, we were all hungry so we set off to find dinner and lo and behold a cream puff cake. No better way to end a wonderful day backpacking around Italy with some great friends.
Arrivederci!
