I'm not even sure what day it is. We awoke early in the morning to catch a train to St. Moritz, Switzerland. The train we boarded was not just any train; we had the privilege to travel on the scenic, little red train called the Bernina Express.
We boarded the train in Tirano. The train boasts panoramic windows to enhance our viewing opportunities as it winds its way through forests, meadows, gorges, and mountain villages. We rode alongside waterfalls, lakes, and glaciers on our way to the luxurious town of St. Moritz. The train passes through 55 tunnels, and 196 bridges and viaducts. There were more shouts of jubilation than you would hear at any firework show. The train ride lasted 2.5 hours and the $70 per ticket cost was worth every penny. We even had the privilege of hearing one of the train conductors play the alpine horn for us during the ten-minute, scenic viewing opportunity.
I believe I wrote in one of my earlier blogs about how Varenna and Lake Como was one of the best scenic lakes I have ever experienced. Well, if you ever plan on going to Europe, I highly suggest you spend 4 nights in Varenna and at least 3 nights in St. Moritz. I hope you enjoy the pictures posted, but trust me they cannot fully display the grandeur of the beauties that were experienced by eight senior citizens from southeast Michigan. Come back soon as I try my best to describe what we experienced in St. Moritz.
Ciao!!
