Another magical day appears to be rising on the mystical Amalfi Coast. As we watched the sunrise above the Tyrrhenian Sea, we realized we’ve never explored east of the bell tower and Church of St. Maria Maddalena. After our morning coffee we decided to adventure along the sea lined road. About a mile into our walk we looked back and seen Atrani facing west. As we wandered further down the coast we came to a bus stop with a sign pointing up that said, Scala 5km, so we hopped on the next bus.
We weaved our way up the mountain through, The Valley of the Dragon. When we made it to the top, there was a small town square where we were greeted with a small church, a pastry shop and a few small stores. After we treated ourselves to a delicious Italian breakfast, we spent the next few hours wandering the village and taking in the views.
I grabbed a quick nap on a park bench and woke up to a growling stomach. We headed to the only restaurant in town, Il Pinguino, where I had smoked sausage topped with mozzarella cheese and Julie had a white fish pasta in an olive oil sauce. Both were very delicious!
After heading back down from Scala, we sat on the beach and I enjoyed another cream puff while Julie had a strawberry puff. We spent the evening strolling through the town of Amalfi and enjoyed a nice, light dinner at La Taverna di Masaniello. We shared a caprese salad and affettato di salumi with a plate of lasagna and a loaf of Italian bread. Unfortunately I only got a partial picture of it because it was so good that I started eating it before I could remember to take one. The best part of the night was when the chef came out and spoke with us. He told us to come back and he’ll make us gnocchi with seafood in a pistachio sauce, his signature dish that isn’t part of the menu.
Arrivederci for now and looking forward to seeing Jordan and Mikayla on Monday.
