The picture of the sunrise was the view from our villa this morning. Unfortunately, no picture I can take will be able to capture the beauty and ambiance this place has to offer. I feel extremely blessed to have this dream of ours come true.
This is the kitchen in our villa, typical Italian style, and our espresso maker.
This morning we sat on our balcony admiring the view, drinking espresso. To be perfectly honest I could’ve ended my day right there, perfectly content and needed nothing more, but my stomach started to growl. We went for a stroll to see what we could find and only had to walk a few minutes to the Atrani town center, Piazza Umberto. It’s a very small square situated between sheer cliffs and a turquoise, crystalline sea. Above the square sits a beautiful church and bell tower.
In the square we did find a restaurant that served an American style breakfast of eggs, bacon, potato and toast. We went for a traditional Italian breakfast which is a croissant and espresso but tomorrow i’ll go with the American breakfast, a croissant just doesn’t do it for me.
We spent the rest of the day exploring the small town of Atrani and the neighboring town of Amalfi. Amalfi is named for the Coast of Amalfi, it’s one of the main towns, along with Positano. There are also numerous villages along the coast, which spans about 30 miles from Salerno to Amalfi. The town of Amalfi has two main piazze, Del Duomo and Piazza Flavio Gioila. These piazze are filled with small, quant shops including restaurants, pastry and coffee shops and a lot of gelato! The sights, sounds, delicious smells and people are endless. This town, like Atroni and basically all the villages along the coast, are cut out of the magnificent cliffs bordering the Mediterranean Sea.
Lemon groves are everywhere, we walked almost 8 miles throughout the day, exploring all the little side roads and alleys seeing where they led. We ended up high above the city of Amalfi, it was something everyone should experience. My words cannot describe the beauty and serenity of our stroll. Here are some pictures of the lemon groves and the food we enjoyed along the way.
Well everyone, I’m stopping here for the day. I wish everyone could experience this and i’m looking forward to tomorrow. I will never forget this day.
