Arrival in Africa

August 10th

Habari (hello)!

We arrived safe last night in Nairobi. Sister Alice, Pastor Michael, and Joseph were eagerly awaiting our arrival. Going through immigration was easy.

Although the flights from Detroit to Paris and then Paris to Nairobi were 8 hours long each, the time went by relatively quick. We did get to see the Eiffel Tower and the track and field venue as we flew out of Paris. On our flight from Paris to Nairobi, we were privileged to have on board members of the Kenya Olympic Team. Two of the ladies were medalist, gold for the 5000m run and silver for the 1500m run. When we were leaving Nairobi airport there were dancers celebrating what I thought was for the joy of our arrival but to my humble dismay it was to celebrate their Olympians return.

It was a fairly quick 45 minute ride to our destination, open-hand children's home. We were treated with a very warm welcome, meeting with a couple of older adult members of the home. Sister Alice prepared us a delicious meal consisting of vegetable stew, cabbage salad, and homemade chapati along with freshly grown pineapple.

Our sleeping accommodations are very comfortable. After our long journey we couldn't wait to use them. Our day begins Sunday at 8am with breakfast, followed by church service at Pastor Michael's home church.

Keep us in your prayers as we start our journey in Kenya. Pray for Gods hand to be on us and his will accomplished.
